Dress rehearsals are underway for China's most popular TV evening of the year - CCTV's Spring Festival Gala. A wide variety of shows are planned.
Singing and dancing will provide the bulk of the entertainments on gala night, accompanied by acrobatic performances, magic shows, and the comedy form known as 'crosstalk'.
The performers include some returning veterans, but even they are bringing new material.
"I'm performing a comedy sketch this year. It's about the V-day parade. I've already performed at two previous galas, but will bring something new to the event this time," said Hou Yong, actor.
"We have performed at the Spring Festival Gala three times before, yet we still get excited every year. This year, we will perform a new song. It's a high-energy number to kick off the gala," said a performer.
Others are total newcomers...
"We are very honored to be here. We've been watching the gala growing up, but this is our first time taking part ourselves. All our families will be watching, so we are also a bit nervous," said TF Boys.
With its theme of "You and Me, Our Chinese Dream, Building a Moderately Prosperous Society", the gala will be live broadcast on February the 7th, Chinese New Year's Eve, the biggest and most important holiday in China. Families all around the country will gather around their televisions to watch the evening, which will last over four hours.
