Director Gianfranco Rosi's perspective contrasts the native islanders' everyday life with that of the newcomers.

"I want to thank also the festival for having the courage to put a documentary again on the festival with feature films, so this was an enormous victory for me already. Thank you so much. Thank you," said Rosi.

Best-Actor and -Actress awards went to Majd Mastoura and Trine Dyrholm, respectively.

"I just want to thank the jury from the bottom of my heart for giving me this award. I'm so happy and proud to receive this in the world's best festival," said Trine Dyrholm, Best Actress winner.

Chinese film "Chang Jiang Tu" - English name "Crosscurrent" - was awarded with a Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution, acknowledging the cinematography of Mark Lee Ping-Bing.
