New York Fashion Week in full swing

New York Fashion Week remains in full swing, with designers showcasing their Spring/Summer 2016 collections. Michael Kors, Victoria Beckham, and DKNY are among the latest runway shows.

Designer Michael Kors had an "earthy elegance" in mind for this collection.

He offered fluttery petaled flowers, and sheer pleats on dresses in classic red, blue, black, and white. Wide black leather belts also formed part of the look.

"Think about things that were in fact very soft and romantic and feminine, but take them down to earth and make them work in a modern way. So ruffles, things that are slit and slashed that catch the breeze, things that unwrap. There's no short and tight in this show. It's all about things that move with the wind. And juxtapose all of that with sort of borrowed-from-the-boys kind of tailoring that feels easy," he said.

"So, you know, your trousers are kind of oversized and they just fold over and you strap them on, great. Your coat, we've ripped all the structure out and slashed it up the side. So you know when you're walking on a spring day your coat catches the breeze."

Among his front row guests were actresses Naomi Watts and Olivia Wilde. And Kendall Jenner was among his models.

Breezy style at Victoria Beckham

Meanwhile, Victoria Beckham flaunted her new "carefree attitude".

Bohemian flowing tops, skirts and dresses ruled the runway in knits, silk, leather, and suede.

And this time, no signature sky-high stilettos, but rather flats, kitten heels, and sandals.

A gingham pattern also appeared on everything from jackets to skirts to dresses.

Donna Karan on hand to support new DKNY designers

Donna Karan attended the DKNY show to support the line's new creative directors, Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow.

Here, actress Kate Mara was also among celebrities in the front row.

Osborne and Chow debuted their first collection for the brand since Karan's departure from the company she founded 31 years ago.

They're staying true to the DKNY look - with playful pinstripes in asymmetrical wool-wrap dresses, jackets and coats, a familiar play on classic tailored suiting.

Chow said Karan gave her approval.

"She's been so supportive, you know throughout the process. It means a lot for us, for her to be present and to be supportive like that, it's been amazing," he said.

"Funny enough, the season is called, we titled the season 'Missing Pieces' knowing that it's a journey, we are on this journey altogether. So we still don't really know this girl altogether," said Maxwell Osborne, DKNY creative director.

"We're still putting the pieces together, so we're still trying to find ourselves, but we know but it's a long journey. We left ourselves enough leverage to have some fun in the future."

They used images of photos taken by Peter Lindbergh in a 1990s ad campaign for the brand. The designers say they hope to foster a younger customer base.
