A new two-year visa system for Chinese nationals visiting the UK begins this week. It will enable visitors from China to make multiple trips to the UK for longer periods.
The visa is available for tourists and for business people attending conferences or investigating a business initiative. British visitors to China will also get the same visa arrangement, which will cost 85 British pounds.
This is the same price as the six-month visitor visa that Chinese and UK tourists are currently limited to. And the UK is open to extending the two-year visa to a 10-year multiple entry visa.
Currently, Chinese tourists are limited to six-month visas. Britain will also make it easier for Chinese travellers to collect their visas before departing. Visitor numbers in the first six months of last year were up nearly 30 percent to 90,000 significantly, they stayed longer and spent more than tourists from any other country.
The British Tourist Authority claims the number of tourists who feel welcome has more than doubled in the last five years. Tourism is Britain’s seventh largest export industry estimated next year to be worth around $50 billion dollars. And with easier visas. China’s love affair with Britain is expected only to grow.
